Tips on Staying Motivated For Your Workouts
Have you found it tough to stay motivated to stick with your workout routine in the last year? With gyms and fitness classes closing, reopening and closing again, it’s been a struggle to stick with a routine and schedule.
Here are a few tips to help get you motivated to get active again!
SET SMALL GOALS
Instead of giving yourself a big end goal, try setting smaller goals that will help get you to where you want to go. Shoot for 20-30 minutes of activity a day. If a full blown workout seems too daunting, go for a walk. Does a walk seem too boring? Make a journey out of it, go for a coffee, but go to the coffee shop that’s further away from home. Gradually build these walks/activities up to longer durations and more frequently until you feel like you are ready for a change of pace, then you can up your intensity and add in different activities/workouts.
GET A PARTNER IN CRIME
Schedule workouts or activities with a friend (from your core bubble), it will make you less likely to bail on your workout if you know you’re going to leave your workout partner in the lurch. It can also make it much more fun and exciting. It gives you someone to celebrate victories, big or small, with as well as discuss the challenges you might be facing. They might be able to help you over the hump to stay motivated.
JOIN A CHALLENGE
There are many free challenges online. Join a 30 day yoga challenge, or a move every day for 30 days one. Having signed up for something can help with commitment. Even if you feel like a 30 day challenge is too overwhelming, you could commit to doing it every other day. This activity level will eventually become a habit and will no longer feel as daunting.
JOIN AN ONLINE FITNESS COMMUNITY
Apple fitness and peloton are just a couple examples of fitness communities you can join, there are also several local options, just check with your regular fitness club. Most have a free trial period, just enough to get you hooked! These platforms provide various fitness classes to follow along with. It takes out the process of deciding and planning what you are going to do in your workout, you just have to do what the instructors tell you to! Having to pay for something is another way to keep motivated. It will give you the mindset of wanting to get your money’s worth, so you are more likely to get off the couch and do one of the classes.
The most important thing is to just get up and get moving, you will feel better afterwards!
