Pain & Injury

Pain can settle in longer than it needs to. We don't think it has to.

Most people wait it out first

But where it hurts isn't always why it hurts

Sometimes it's a pattern your body built around the injury and never let go of. Sometimes the spot itself never got strong enough for what you're asking of it. Either way, rest alone doesn't always fix it.

Where should I start?

If you're not sure where to start, book a physiotherapy assessment first. Your physiotherapist does a full evaluation and maps out next steps with you. This might lead to hands-on treatment, guided exercise through Kinesiology, or Massage, depending on what's going on.

Is heat or ice better for pain or injury?

As a general rule: ice for the first 24–48 hours after an acute injury, or whenever there's noticeable swelling — it helps numb sharp pain and keep swelling down. Heat works better for chronic stiffness or tight muscles, since it relaxes tension and improves blood flow. If swelling is present, skip the heat.

How long will it take to feel better?

It depends on what's going on and how long it's been building. Some things ease within a few weeks; others — especially ones that have been around a while — take longer. After your assessment, your physiotherapist gives you a realistic estimate for your specific situation.

When should I come in after an injury?

Within 24–72 hours is a good target. An early assessment rules out anything serious, helps manage swelling and pain early, and gives you clear guidance on what to keep doing and what to avoid, so you don't stall your own progress.

What People Say

CH - Wesbrook

Friendly, clean and well-run business. My physiotherapist Rob is a brilliant practitioner at finding the deep connections between different parts of the body to help fix the root of the problems.

I have a chronic injury/deformity that has caused me pain and limited my mobility. Over the years I have seen many physiotherapists. None have done what Char does! Beyond functional fitness or Pilates but a whole body correction program that has me getting stronger and more stable every day. A life changer!

Just saw Marina for a footie-related leg injury. She did rigorous diagnostics, told me exactly what was wrong. Educated me on prevention and rehab philosophies for someone my age, designed an exercise program, trained me to use it (in the gym area), and sent a follow-up training video. HIGHLY recommend Marina, and PhysioWorks in general.
