Bike Fit
Why do a bike fit:
One size does not fit all! Two people can be the same height but have very different bodies. Someone may have longer legs and a shorter torso. Someone may have one leg that is slightly longer than the other or someone may have differently shaped feet altering the contact with the pedal. All of this means that the same bike set-up may not work for two people despite their being the same height. The good news is that bikes are very adjustable!
Bike fits are not just for serious cyclists but for beginners too!
A bike fit can:
- Improve comfort
- Improve power
- Prevent injury
- Reduce or eliminate discomfort/pain associated with riding
- Improve overall performance
What’s involved?
- Step one: We listen! We want to know about you and your bike. What kind of cycling you do and what your goals are. We want to know about any current or previous injuries, from on or off the bike. We want to know about any discomforts you currently have while cycling.
- Step two: The bike fit will look at making adjustments to the points of contact (feet, seat and hands) to help put you in the best possible position on your bike for comfort and performance.
- Step three: Based on our assessment of what we see and changes we make we may suggest some specific exercises that will help you become more efficient and more comfortable on your bike while helping you to prevent injuries.
What should you bring with you to a bike fit?
- Your bike! Sounds obvious but what may not be so obvious is that it should be clean and in good working order. Make sure that the points of contact between you and the bike are not seized up (seatpost, saddle, pedals and stem).
- Your cycling shoes. Make sure your cleat screws are not seized up or damaged.
- Your cycling clothing (shorts and jersey).
